(ASL) AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER

QUALITY DEPARTMETNT

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center has a career opportunity for a Person-Centered Service ASL interpreter. The Person- Centered Service American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter works under the direction of the Network Director of Person-Centered Services Department to ensure seamless communication and care for our diverse patient community.

The ASL interpreter will facilitate communication through the use of American Sign Language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and will promote accessibility. The ASL interpreter will assist in the development of new training resources, materials, policies, and programs for staff and clinicians to successfully provide appropriate accommodations for patients who use sign language to communicate. The ASL interpreter will relay information accurately and completely in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, patient confidentiality and informed consent, as well as the Code of Professional Conduct for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. The ASL interpreter will participate in collection, analysis and trending language assistance data and related performance improvement activities. The position works collaboratively with departments and roles across the Network to meet the needs of those individuals that require language accommodations.

Requirements
RID Certification preferred Bachelor degree in American Sign Language/English interpreting Minimum 2-3 years prior experience as a medical interpreter Knowledge of medical terminology in English and American Sign Language Cognitive ability to provide interpretation services in all clinical settings, according to RID Code of Professional conduct Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Windows, Microsoft Excel and Access. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
