PATIENT INFORMATION REPRESENTATIVES

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a 404-bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma and Stroke Center. Our goal is to improve the health of our community by working closely with our patients and their families as well as their primary care physicians and other health providers.  

We are seeking Patient Information Representatives for immediate Full-Time evening shift  opportunity in our Neonatal ICU Unit,  As a Patient Information Representative, you’ll be a vital member of our nursing team,   responsible for providing clerical, medical records maintenance, and reception duty support on a nursing unit. Additional duties will include:

  • Assisting patients in obtaining services, understanding policies, and making health care decisions.
  • Assembling charts for patient admissions.
  • Coordinating communication between patients, family members, medical staff, administrative staff, or regulatory agencies.
  • Interviewing patients or their representatives to identify problems relating to care.
  • Maintaining knowledge of community services and resources available to patients.
  • Referring patients to appropriate health care services or resources.
  • Investigating and directing patient inquiries or complaints to appropriate medical staff members and following up to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Assisting and explaining policies, procedures, or services to patients
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One-year secretarial experience is required.
  • Prior hospital experience working as a medical secretary, medical assistant, or patient care representative is desirable.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Satisfactory written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must have good computer skills and software applications (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
