The primary role of the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is to provide clinical management for critically ill complex neuro patients utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the Neuro ICU supervising physician and attending backup ICU physicians. The NP/PA will also be expected to assist with emergency management of neuro patients outside of ICU and respond to inpatient code strokes. A 24-hour coverage will be divided amongst multiple nurse practitioners.

We are currently seeking F/T Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants with prior “neuro” experience to join our team. Our ideal candidates will be flexible, willing, and able to work a combination of days, nights, and weekends.

Shift: 3 X 12-hour shifts

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Obtain health histories and complete neuro and physical examinations. Document pertinent findings. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explain the necessity and nature of anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, families, healthcare team members, and students.
  • Formulate and implement a treatment plan in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Assess the patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions to stabilize the patient.
  • Provide family-centered care by communicating with the family regarding the changing health care needs of the patient.
  • Perform and participate in quality performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing, healthcare team members, and the larger community.
Requirements

PA Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs (ARC-PA) program, required.
  • A licensed Physician Assistant by the New York State Department of Education is required.
  • Must have Minimum of 2 years acute Critical Care (MICU, SICU) experience required.
  • Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), is required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications, required.

NP Requirements:

  • Current NYS Nurse Practitioner License (master’s degree-Advanced practice)
  • Must have Minimum of 2 years acute Critical Care (MICU, SICU) experience required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification, required.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges and DEA certification
