Registered Nurse – Ambulatory Surgery (Same-Day Surgery)
Full-Time | Day Shift

Join a fast-paced, highly coordinated Ambulatory Surgery Department where precision nursing care ensures safe surgical preparation, smooth procedures, and same-day patient recovery and discharge.

At Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, we are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (Ambulatory Surgery RN) to support pre-operative, intra-operative (as needed), and post-anesthesia recovery care in a high-volume outpatient surgical setting.

Role Overview

The Ambulatory Surgery RN is responsible for managing the full perioperative outpatient experience—from pre-op preparation through post-anesthesia recovery and safe discharge—ensuring optimal patient outcomes in same-day surgical care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete comprehensive pre-operative patient assessments
  • Prepare patients for surgical or procedural interventions
  • Start IVs and administer pre-op medications per protocol
  • Verify consents, labs, and surgical safety checklists
  • Monitor patients in PACU (post-anesthesia recovery)
  • Assess pain, vital signs, airway status, and post-op stability
  • Identify and respond to post-procedure complications
  • Provide detailed discharge education and instructions
  • Coordinate safe same-day patient discharge

Requirements
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required)
  • Minimum 2–3 years of acute care or surgical nursing experience (Required)
  • Prior experience in Pre-Op, PACU, or Operating Room strongly preferred
  • Current BLS certification (Required)
  • ACLS certification (Preferred or required depending on unit assignment)
  • Strong IV insertion and medication administration skills (Required)
  • Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Full-Time | Day Shift
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience (DOE)
  • Shift differentials may apply
