ASL Interpreter

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a fully accredited community based teaching hospital and level I Trauma and Stroke Center. We are currently seeking an experienced American Sign Language Interpreter for immediate full time day shift position in our Language Assistance Program. The Language Assistance Program at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center offers a wide range of interpreter services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients.

DUTIES
• Selected candidate will provide interpreting services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients and hearing health care professionals in a variety of medical settings.
• Facilitating communication through use of sign language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and knowledge about visual accessibility.
• Coordinating with staff to schedule appointments that need ASL interpretation, as well as tracking such appointments.
• Providing training to educate staff working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients.
• Relaying information accurately and completely in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, patient confidentiality and informed consent, as well as the Code of Professional Conduct for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
• May manage auxiliary aids and services for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing.
