Lead Life Safety at a Level I Trauma Center

Are you a seasoned fire safety professional ready to lead and elevate a critical life safety program in a complex healthcare environment?

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a proud member of the MediSys Health Network, is seeking a Senior Fire Safety Manager to oversee and strengthen fire prevention, compliance, and emergency preparedness across our multi-building campus in Queens.

As a fully accredited teaching hospital and Level I Trauma and Stroke Center, our environment is fast-paced, high-acuity, and mission-driven. Fire and life safety is not simply regulatory compliance — it is essential to protecting patients at their most vulnerable moments.

This is a high-visibility leadership role with direct impact on hospital operations and regulatory readiness.

Position Overview

The Senior Fire Safety Manager serves as the hospital’s subject matter expert for fire and life safety compliance. This role leads all fire prevention initiatives, manages regulatory inspections, and acts as liaison with FDNY and accreditation agencies.

You will oversee fire safety systems, drills, training, contractor compliance, and regulatory documentation while ensuring adherence to FDNY, Joint Commission, OSHA, and NFPA standards.

Key Responsibilities

Fire Prevention & Regulatory Leadership

  • Lead and manage the hospital-wide fire safety and life safety program
  • Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments and hazard analyses
  • Develop, implement, and maintain fire safety plans and evacuation procedures
  • Ensure full compliance with FDNY regulations, Joint Commission standards, OSHA requirements, and NFPA guidelines
  • Serve as primary liaison to FDNY and regulatory authorities
  • Investigate and resolve Fire Department violations
  • Oversee contractor work related to fire alarm, sprinkler, and suppression systems
  • Maintain and update Fire Plans for hospital and affiliated buildings

Inspection, Systems Oversight & Emergency Preparedness

  • Direct inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems, sprinklers, extinguishers, and suppression systems
  • Respond to and investigate fire alarm activations and incidents
  • Conduct and document fire drills across all shifts in accordance with FDNY and NFPA standards
  • Oversee Fire Watch activities and maintain detailed compliance logs
  • Inspect hot work areas to ensure adherence to safety protocols
  • Participate in Life Safety and Environment of Care meetings

Training & Program Development

  • Develop and deliver hospital-wide fire safety education programs
  • Ensure staff preparedness for emergency situations
  • Maintain accurate and audit-ready compliance documentation

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of fire safety experience (hospital or healthcare setting strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Joint Commission fire and life safety standards
  • Hands-on experience with fire alarm testing and inspections
  • Experience working directly with FDNY and regulatory agencies preferred

Required Certifications

  • FDNY Citywide Fire Drill Conductor
  • FDNY Fire Alarm Supervisor
  • FDNY Sprinkler/Standpipe Certification
  • OSHA 15–30 Hour Certification (preferred)
