Provide Critical Psychiatric Care in a High-Impact ER Setting
Join the Psychiatric Emergency Department at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where experienced nurses deliver life-changing care to patients experiencing acute psychiatric crises. Work within a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, social workers, and crisis intervention specialists to stabilize, assess, and support patients in one of Queens’ busiest emergency care environments.

This is a full-time role for experienced psychiatric RNs who thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced clinical settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews and comprehensive mental health assessments
  • Monitor patients’ emotional, behavioral, and physical status
  • Administer prescribed psychiatric medications, including PRNs, and monitor effectiveness/adverse reactions
  • Respond to behavioral emergencies using approved de-escalation techniques
  • Provide patient and family education on psychiatric care and treatment plans
  • Participate in therapeutic interventions, group sessions, and psychoeducational programs
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists and crisis teams for patient stabilization
  • Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of care, assessments, and interventions
  • Advocate for patient needs and support treatment planning

Requirements
  • BSN degree required
  • Current New York State RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Minimum 1–2 years psychiatric/behavioral health experience preferred
  • Previous experience in psychiatric emergency or acute inpatient settings highly desirable
  • Strong therapeutic communication, crisis management, and assessment skills
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications and treatment plans
  • Ability to thrive in a high-acuity, fast-paced ER environment
