Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a member of the MediSys Health Network, is a 384-bed community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center. We are seeking an experienced Recovery Room/PACU Registered Nurse to join our team as an Assistant Head Nurse.

The immediate post-anesthesia period demands constant vigilance, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to recognize complications quickly. We are looking for an experienced nurse who can provide clinical leadership while helping ensure patients recover safely following surgery and anesthesia. PACU nursing specifically involves close monitoring of airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, pain, and other postoperative concerns as patients emerge from anesthesia. What You’ll Do

  • Assist with the day-to-day clinical and operational leadership of the Recovery Room/PACU.
  • Coordinate nursing assignments and resources based on surgical volume, patient acuity, and unit needs.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for nurses caring for patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery.
  • Provide leadership during airway, respiratory, hemodynamic, and other postoperative emergencies.
  • Support safe, efficient patient flow from the OR through recovery and transfer to the appropriate level of care.
  • Monitor patient care and reinforce nursing, patient safety, and post-anesthesia recovery standards.
  • Coach and support nursing staff while collaborating closely with anesthesia, surgeons, OR staff, and the interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Current New York State RN license required.
  • Strong Recovery Room/PACU nursing experience required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS required.
  • Charge Nurse, preceptor, or other demonstrated clinical leadership experience preferred.
  • CPAN certification preferred.
  • Strong post-anesthesia assessment, clinical judgment, prioritization, and emergency response skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $58.21/hour + Differentials
