Assistant Head Nurse – Medical/Surgical
Full-Time | Day Shift
$58.21/hour + Differentials | Full 1199 Union Benefits

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a member of the MediSys Health Network, is a 384-bed community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma and Stroke Center. We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Medical-Surgical team as an Assistant Head Nurse.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished Med-Surg nurse to take the next step in clinical leadership while remaining closely connected to patient care.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with the day-to-day clinical operations of the Medical-Surgical unit.
  • Coordinate patient assignments, admissions, discharges, transfers, and unit workflow.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to nursing staff throughout the shift.
  • Monitor patient care and reinforce nursing standards, policies, and patient safety practices.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex patient-care and operational issues.
  • Coach, mentor, and support nursing staff and new team members.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team to promote quality care and efficient patient flow.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Current New York State RN license required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of acute-care Medical-Surgical nursing experience required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Charge Nurse, preceptor, or other demonstrated clinical leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively lead and support staff in a fast-paced inpatient environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $58.21/hour + Differentials
  • Full 1199 Union Benefits
