Student Nurse Externship Join us during your summer off for our annual "Student Nurse Paid Summer Externship." This paid program is designed to give RN nursing students valuable exposure to professional nursing practice, with hands-on experience in our clinical environment. Program Description The student nurse extern is a member of the nursing staff who is trained to perform specific tasks under the direction of a registered nurse. This unique 9-week externship gives student nurses the opportunity to practice hands-on patient care. The experience begins with an assignment to a unit and a preceptor RN who will provide the student nurse extern with the support and guidance needed to grow professionally. The JHMC Student Nurse Paid Summer Externship offers a broad scope of hands-on experiences. Our patient care units present student nurse externs with a range of learning experiences. In addition to direct patient care, additional experiences are arranged for student nurse externs to observe in the Emergency Department and the Critical Care areas. Upon successful completion of the program there will be Post-Graduate Employment Opportunities and Preferential Placement for the student nurse externs. Qualified Applicants Must be currently enrolled in an accredited RN/BSN program and must have completed 2 semesters of clinical nursing rotation in an acute care setting. This 9-week program is open to junior nursing students entering their senior year. A commitment of 37.5 hours per week, including weekends is required. Following formal classroom orientation, students are assigned to one unit for 9 weeks of clinical practice, working side-by-side with an RN preceptor. The student nurse extern will be required to follow the preceptor's schedule working 12-hour shifts. You will also be scheduled for a 1-week Emergency Department rotation and a 1-week Critical Care rotation.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an accredited RN/BSN degree program

• Completion of 1 year of clinical (2 semesters)

• Copy of current transcript (minimum 3.0 GPA)

• 1 letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor

• Ability to complete all Occupational Health Services requirements

• Availability for a full 1-week orientation (8:00AM - 4:30PM) No Exceptions!!

• Must be able to work flex 12-hour schedule and every other weekend

• Commitment to 9 weeks of full-time employment R
