Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a community-focused teaching hospital located in the heart of Queens, seeks a compassionate and experienced Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist to join our dynamic team. Serving one of New York City’s most diverse populations, the hospital aims to provide comprehensive high-risk obstetrics care, consultation services, and procedural and sonographic expertise. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to medical education and collaborative care.

Our department is committed to maternal health equity and offers specialized programs in diabetes, hypertension, cardiac risk management, and perinatal wellness. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine team plays a crucial role in improving outcomes for high-risk pregnancies across the borough.

This position offers flexibility for home call coverage and participation in an academic environment dedicated to clinical excellence, education, and equitable maternal health outcomes.

JOB SUMMARY

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist is a full-time position responsible for providing comprehensive high-risk obstetric care, consultation services, and procedural and sonographic expertise.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL CARE:

  • Provide direct and consultative care for patients with high-risk pregnancies in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Conduct specialized procedures including amniocentesis, cerclage placement, and other indicated interventions.
  • Supervise and interpret obstetric sonograms and perform targeted ultrasounds for maternal–fetal assessment.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and perinatal conferences to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, residents, and nursing teams to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.

ADMINISTRATIVE & EDUCATIONAL DUTIES:

  • Teach and mentor OB/GYN residents and medical students through didactic sessions, clinical supervision, and procedural instruction.
  • Participate in curriculum development and quality improvement initiatives related to maternal–fetal medicine and perinatal outcomes.

CONSULTATIVE AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:

  • Provide consultation services for community obstetricians and hospital providers regarding complex pregnancies.
  • Support the department’s commitment to improving maternal health equity and addressing disparities in underserved communities.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.

CALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide remote call coverage from home in rotation with other attending MFM providers, offering telephonic and virtual consults as needed.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Current New York State medical license (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-risk obstetrics, fetal ultrasound, and invasive prenatal procedures.
  • Strong commitment to teaching, mentorship, and service to an underserved population.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
