Assistant Head Nurse – MICU/CICU

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a member of the MediSys Health Network, is a 384-bed community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center. We are seeking an experienced Critical Care RN to join our Medical/Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (MICU/CICU) as an Assistant Head Nurse.

In the MICU/CICU, patients can deteriorate rapidly and clinical decisions matter. We are looking for a strong critical-care nurse who can provide bedside clinical leadership, guide nursing staff, and help coordinate the care of critically ill and medically complex patients. Our unit cares for patients requiring advanced cardiac, respiratory, and hemodynamic monitoring, including mechanically ventilated patients.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with the day-to-day clinical and operational leadership of the MICU/CICU.
  • Coordinate patient assignments and nursing resources based on acuity, staffing, and unit needs.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for nurses caring for critically ill and medically complex patients.
  • Provide leadership during patient deterioration, emergencies, and resuscitative situations.
  • Support staff caring for patients requiring advanced cardiac, respiratory, hemodynamic, and ventilatory support.
  • Monitor patient care and reinforce critical-care, safety, and nursing practice standards.
  • Coach, mentor, and support nursing staff while collaborating with intensivists, physicians, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

  • Current New York State RN license required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of current/recent ICU, MICU, CICU, or directly comparable critical-care nursing experience required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Current BLS and ACLS required.
  • Charge Nurse, preceptor, or other demonstrated critical-care leadership experience preferred.
  • CCRN preferred.
  • Strong critical-care assessment, prioritization, clinical judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to recognize clinical deterioration and lead effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity intensive-care environment.

Compensation & Benefits
