 The Department of Speech-Language and Hearing at Jamaica Hospital offers a wide range of Speech-Language Pathology, diagnostic and therapeutic services for children, adolescents, and adults. We are currently seeking an experienced Speech Language Pathologist for an immediate full-time day shift opportunity.

 DUTIES 

  • As a member of our highly trained Speech Pathology team, you will provide daily Speech Language Pathology, diagnostic and therapeutic services and interventions for children, adolescents and adults.
  • Providing communication/cognitive and swallowing evaluation and treatment across inpatient rehabilitation, acute care and outpatient coverage areas.
  • Implementing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders
  • Evaluating and treating patients with a variety of head/neck cancer and managing aspects of their communication and swallowing
  • Screening, identifying, assessing, diagnosing, treating, and following-up services for disorders of speech, language, voice, cognition, and oral-pharyngeal swallowing.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology 
  • Licensed and ASHA certified SLP with experience in instrumental swallowing evaluations (MBS & FEES preferred).  
  • Possess American Speech and Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology. 
  • Experience in the management of patients with head and neck cancer in all aspects of communication and swallowing.

  • Ability to be sensitive to the individual needs/disabilities of the patient population; and have the ability to teach and share knowledge in a constructive, non-critical manner.  
  • Must have knowledge of the principles, techniques, and terminology of speech-language pathology; and be knowledgeable of human anatomy and physiology of the head and neck structures, including the respiratory system  
  • Must have knowledge in the principals involved in the neurological organization of speech and language; and have an understanding of diagnostic testing, administration, scoring, and interpretation used in speech-language pathology
