Jamaica Hospital Medical Center has extensive experience in providing primary and preventive care to school-aged children through its school-based health centers (SBHC), which have been in operations since 1982.

One of New York’s original demonstration programs, the Jamaica Hospital’s School Health Program, has served tens of thousands of children over its 30-year history. Jamaica Hospital has three School Based Health Centers (SBHC) located in Queens; Campus Magnet High School, PS 155, and PS 223.

Jamaica Hospital School Health program has two exciting opportunities for a Psychotherapist/Social Worker (LMSW).

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains active social work caseload, including but not limited to: distributing mental health screenings to enrolled population; individual and family counseling; counseling services via telehealth; classroom workshops and parent workshops;.
  • Provides direct service to patients with engagement of families as indicated using a variety of social work modalities between the hours 7.30 am to 4.00 pm, Monday thru Friday.
  • On-site services at the SBHC include mental health care individual setting, including assessment, treatment, referral, and crisis intervention.
  • Primary prevention; individual mental health assessment, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Crisis intervention; short and long-term counseling; linkage with community counseling; group and family counseling; and case management.
  • Child development activities, classroom outreach and presentations.
  • Advocates on behalf of the client to ensure maximum access to health care.
  • Maintains appropriate professional patient care documentation as defined by hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work required.
  • LMSW licensure in the State of New York required.
  • Must be fully bilingual in Spanish.
  • Prior experience in a school setting working with kids 13-21 or as an LMSW required.
  • Prior experience managing ACS calls.
  • Prior experience with managing situations of suspected child abuse and making reports to the SCR.
  • Able to drive to other locations at least twice a week: 4 days in one school, 1 day in the other school.
