Flushing Hospital Medical Center is a 293-bed, not-for-profit teaching hospital. The hospital offers a variety of services for a culturally diverse community, including Bariatric Surgical Service, Ambulatory Care Center, Women’s Health Center, Wound Care Center, and Chemical Dependence Unit. Our busy on-site full-service pharmacy provides prescription services to discharged, emergency department, and clinic patients as well as employees. We are currently seeking a Project Manager in Plant Operations.

The Project Manager is responsible for managing departmental construction projects, such as overseeing and coordinating the work of in-house staff and outside vendors, and acting as a liaison between the department’s project work and other department’s staff to ensure that work is being done safely and in compliance with all applicable codes. Also directs and supervises departmental staff on regular repair and maintenance work as required to ensure the smooth operation of the department and facility as a whole.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates Plant Operations Department construction projects to ensure that timelines are adhered to and deadlines are met, and projects are constructed as intended.
  • Assists in management of other departmental operations, such as repair and maintenance activities.
  • Works directly with the other Engineering managers and departmental staff to manage facility operations, and interacts with staff from other departments.
  • Assists in the processing of purchase requisitions, following up on payment issues with accounts payable/accounting departments.
  • Interacts and follows up with vendors in matters regarding purchasing of supplies and materials for the Engineering Department.
  • Assists in the receiving of calls for maintenance, repairs, and project work, and coordinating/following up on these requests.
  • Performs duties of the assistant director and director in their absence.
  • Processes departmental payroll as required.
  • Maintains files and documentation of all types for the department.
  • Assists in compiling and coordinating reports related to the department’s activities, including regulatory compliance activities.
  • Operates standard office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, and copiers.
  • Exhibits cordial and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers in the facility, in the office, on the phone & via email.
  • Performs related work as required, and also may be required to carry out the activities of the workers supervised if necessary.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in building construction and facility maintenance, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints/CAD drawings and have a basic understanding of all building trades.
  • Must have a working knowledge of, and experience in following OSHA guidelines as well as building & fire codes, and other facility-related regulatory guidelines.
  • Good computer skills – experience with MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint preferred.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, must be able to deal with people courteously, even when under stress.
  • Ability to analyze emerging situations promptly and to determine proper course of action.
