Flushing Hospital Medical Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced healthcare professional to serve as Assistant Director of Language Assistance Program. The Assistant Director of Language Assistance Program works with their counterpart at Jamaica Hospital and under the Network Director of Person-Centered Services Department. This leadership role supports our commitment to providing equitable, high-quality care to our diverse patient population, including Limited English Proficient (LEP), Deaf, Hard of Hearing, blind, and visually impaired individuals.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Language Services is responsible for overseeing the development, and implementation of language assistance education and training programs for staff including Qualified Medical Interpreter training. This includes interpreter services, bilingual provider coordination, and compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards related to language assistance and disability accommodations.

Key Responsibilities Support daily operations of the Language Assistance Program Train bilingual staff as qualified medical interpreters and oversee their continuing education requirements Ensure compliance with all language access regulations and hospital policies Leads the collection, analysis and trending language assistance data and related performance improvement activities Oversee interpretation modalities including in-person, telephonic, and Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) services Develop and deliver training on language access best practices Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to improve patient communication and safety Monitor quality assurance and service effectiveness across language programs Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (Translation/Interpretation, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related fields) Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Windows, Microsoft Excel and Access Advanced proficiency in a foreign language (preferably Spanish, Mandarin, or Bengali) Previous interpretation and/or translation experience Job type: Full time M-F 8:30-5pm
