Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Plumber A to oversee critical plumbing operations that directly support patient care and hospital safety. This role requires top-tier technical expertise, leadership ability, and full compliance with all regulatory certifications. Every qualification listed is mandatory.

ROLE SUMMARY

As our Plumber A, you will supervise plumbing technicians and manage the operation, maintenance, and installation of essential hospital systems, including:

  • Medical gas distribution systems
  • Steam and condensate utilities
  • Domestic water and drainage systems
  • Backflow prevention assemblies
  • Fire suppression piping
  • Specialty hospital plumbing infrastructure

You will ensure readiness for inspections, coordinate system shutdowns with clinical teams, and uphold the highest safety and compliance standards.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Training

  • Lead a team of plumbing professionals, assign daily tasks, and enforce safety, compliance, and infection-control standards.
  • Provide hands-on training and support staff development.

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Oversee PM programs for medical gases, steam, domestic water, drainage, fire suppression systems, and backflow devices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair valves, fixtures, steam coils, leaks, and complex piping issues.

Installation & Project Oversight

  • Direct installation of fixtures, medical gas piping, steam components, and backflow assemblies.
  • Coordinate shutdowns and assist emergency/fire response operations.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain PM logs, inspection records, and CMMS entries.
  • Ensure compliance with NYC Plumbing Code, OSHA, NFPA, JCAHO, and all FDNY certificate requirements.

Requirements

MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

All qualifications listed below are critical and required for consideration.

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Minimum 5+ years of commercial or institutional plumbing experience (Hospital or healthcare environment strongly preferred)
  • Journeyman or Master Plumber license/certification (NYC Master Plumber preferred — 7 years’ experience or applicable degree)
  • Medical gas and backflow certification (required upon hire)
  • FDNY Certificates of Fitness: G-60, F-60, (all required)
  • Strong ability to read blueprints, plan work, and interpret code requirements
  • Valid NYS driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs., handle heavy tools, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces

PAY & BENEFITS

  • $36.6608 per hour
