Student Nurse Externship

Join us during your summer break for our annual “Student Nurse Paid Summer Externship.” This paid program is designed to give RN nursing students valuable exposure to professional nursing practice, with hands-on experience in our clinical environment.

Program Description

The student nurse extern is a member of the nursing staff who is trained to perform specific tasks under the direction of a registered nurse. This unique 8-week externship gives student nurses the opportunity to practice hands-on patient care. The experience begins with an assignment to a unit and a preceptor RN who will provide the student nurse extern with the support and guidance needed to grow professionally.

The FHMC Student Nurse Paid Summer Externship offers a broad scope of hands-on experiences. Our patient care units present student nurse externs with a range of learning experiences. In addition to direct patient care, additional experiences are arranged for student nurse externs to observe in the Emergency Department and the Critical Care areas.

Upon successful completion of the program there will be Post-Graduate Employment Opportunities and Preferential Placement for the student nurse externs.
