Job Details: Billing and Claims Specialist

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a member of the Medisys Health Network, is a 404-bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and Level I Trauma and Stroke Center. We are currently seeking experienced Accounting Clerks for our billing department. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate claims submission, billing support, and account reconciliation for patient services.

Primary Responsibilities:

Prepare and submit accurate claims to insurance companies, ensuring compliance with all regulations and reimbursement methodologies (e.g., DRG, APC, APG).
Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage prior to billing to minimize denials.
Reconcile patient accounts, resolve billing discrepancies, and follow up on unpaid claims to ensure timely payments.
Monitor accounts for overdue payments and initiate collection efforts in alignment with hospital policies.
Maintain a thorough understanding of medical coding (CPT4, ICD10, HCPCS) and provider contract concepts to support claims processing and resolution.
Utilize advanced MS Excel functions, including pivot tables and formulas, to create and analyze standardized billing reports.

Days: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (Full-Time)

Requirements
Requirements: • Experience: 1–2 years of inpatient and/or outpatient hospital billing experience required. Experience processing Facility, Ancillary, ER, and Clinic claims. Knowledge of facility reimbursement methodologies (e.g., DRG, APC, APG). • Education: Associate’s degree in healthcare or business-related field from an accredited institution (required). Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferred). • Skills & Knowledge: Proficiency in medical terminology and coding (CPT4, ICD10, HCPCS). Strong understanding of billing principles and claims resolution practices. Knowledge of bookkeeping and collections preferred. Advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, report creation). • Certifications: Coding certifications such as CPC, COC, CCS, CIC, RHIT (preferred). Other: Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
