Nurse Practitioner – Center of Excellence Grant Program

What You’ll Need

• Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited program
• Current New York State RN license and Nurse Practitioner certification in Psychiatry
• Appropriate prescribing credentials, including DEA registration when prescribing controlled substances
  1+ years of psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred
• Strong psychiatric assessment, clinical judgment and medication-management skills
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment

New York State recognizes Psychiatry as an NP specialty, and NPs practice within the specialty area in which they are certified. A federal DEA number is required for an NP to prescribe or dispense controlled substances. [op.nysed.gov], [op.nysed.gov] [op.nysed.gov]
