REGISTERED NURSE – DISCHARGE LOUNGE (FULL-TIME)

Salary: $55.91 /hour + Differentials and Full Benefits

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for our Discharge Lounge Unit. This role is ideal for RNs who are dedicated to improving patient flow and enhancing the discharge experience.

The Discharge Lounge is a specialized area where medically cleared patients wait comfortably while final discharge details—such as medications, paperwork, or transportation—are completed. The goal is to improve hospital efficiency and patient satisfaction by freeing up inpatient beds and providing a more relaxed discharge environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support patients awaiting final discharge.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (pharmacy, transport, case management) to ensure timely discharges.
  • Provide education and discharge instructions to patients and families.
  • Ensure patient comfort with access to snacks, beverages, blankets, and entertainment.
  • Maintain clear communication with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient status.
  • Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and discharge coordination.

Requirements
  • Active RN license in New York State.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
  • 5 years of acute care experience, especially in Med/Surg or similar settings.
  • Experience with the discharge process and patient flow coordination preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required
  • PALS or NRP – Preferred depending on prior unit experience

SKILLS:

  • Strong IV skills
  • Proficiency in Epic or similar EMR systems
  • Excellent communication and patient education abilities
  • High level of compassion, empathy, and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
