Jamaica Hospital Medical Center currently seeks experienced Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Coordinator for an immediate full-time opportunity.  Under the supervision of the Director of Infection Control, selected IPC Coordinator will be responsible for the effective direction, management, and operation of the infection prevention and control program, including all aspects of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) surveillance, communicable diseases review, and reporting, outbreak investigation, surveillance, and IP&C rounds.  Participating in activities to identify, and prevent transmission of infections to residents, visitors, and staff.  Selected candidates will work collaboratively with all roles and departments across the organization to achieve IPC program goals.  Specific other duties will include:

DUTIES

  • Identifying trends for hospital infections, interpreting surveillance data to develop risk reduction strategies. 
  • Developing and implementing Infection Control educational programs for hospital staff, patients, and families. 
  • Investigating clusters and outbreaks to identify infection sources.
  • Educating healthcare staff regarding short- and long-term control measures. 
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to mitigate and control disease entities and support quality initiatives. 
  • Consulting with local and state health departments to report infectious cases. 
  • Communicating trend data and analysis to implement process improvement initiatives. 
  • Implementing CDC and OSHA infection prevention and control policies to guide hospital departments. 
  •  Monitoring and following up procedures for hospital staff regarding cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization. 

 

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must have primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or other related field.
  • For licensed personnel, a current NYS license is required.
  • Experienced Infection Control Coordinators MUST HAVE Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) awarded by the Certification Board in Infection Control (CBIC).
  • 3-5 years of Infection Prevention and Control experience in an acute setting preferred.

SKILLS:

  • Have excellent communication and organizational skills
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
