Flushing Hospital Medical Center is a 293-bed voluntary, not-for-profit teaching hospital. Located in one of New York City’s most culturally diverse boroughs, FHMC has served the health care needs of the community for more than a century.   We are proud of our uncompromising commitment and approach in providing the highest levels of professional, compassionate care to the many culturally diverse, underserved patients and residents in Queens.  We are currently looking for a professional, experienced HR Assistant to join our Human Resources team.

SUMMARY

Working in a fast-paced environment, the HR Assistant will play an instrumental role in providing administrative support to several departmental initiatives including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and employee exits while interacting with candidates and employees.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support Human Resource processes by checking references, processing onboarding packets, coordinating and scheduling interviews/physicals, assisting with orientation and employee exits.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Human Resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employees, candidates, and visitors to HR and the OHS Department.
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants and employees relative to standard information; refer more complex questions to the Associate Director or Director as applicable.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of Human Resources files and records performing periodic audits of HR files to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Process requests for Nursing School Transcripts, tuition reimbursement, and update licenses and certifications, and check requests
  • Provide clerical support to the office including mail distribution, ordering supplies, and submitting work orders.
  • Assist the Director and Associate Director with correspondence and special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Kronos and Lawson a plus or the ability to quickly learn Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook and Excel Proficiency a must).
  • Experience with Cisco Webex, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources required in a related area of study.
  • 1-2 year’s relevant experience in Human Resources.
