Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys  Health Network is a 404 bed fully accredited  community based teaching hospital and level I Trauma and Stroke Center  We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety Manager for a full time position in our Plant Operations Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Selected candidate will plan, direct, and implement Hospital environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs to ensure JHMC compliance and identify and resolve EHS deficiencies and/or issues. Other duties will include:

  • Conducting on-going training regarding safety for all employees.
  • Ensuring employee orientations and  appropriate work area training.
  • Planning and implementing health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Identifying and suggesting corrective measures to minimize accidents and achieve EHS goals.
  •  Conducting routine safety meetings to review new procedures and policies.
  • Inspecting facility site areas to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards.
  • Determining corrective / preventative measures and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Investigating employee Environmental, Health and Safety complaints to develop and recommend corrective solutions.
  • Providing information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Preparing, compiling and submitting accident reports for appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Maintaining and updating EHS files and records
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission Environment of Care standards and other regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of DEP, DEC, and other applicable industry and governmental standards/requirements
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes
  • Superior communication skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to manage and train staff including: organizing, prioritizing, scheduling daily work and projects and promoting professional development
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to develop multiple solutions to an issue and make valid recommendations for resolution
  • Able to understand and execute processes including: recognizing customer needs, communicating process changes, measuring and assessing success and identifying areas of improvement
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to develop and implement environmental and safety policies, programs, and training
  • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other applicable computer applications
  • Knowledge of Healthcare practices and processes
  • Able to work well in a team environment or independently

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety and/or other related field.
