Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is a New York-based Community Hospital and Level 1 Trauma Treatment Center.  We provide healthcare services to an underserved community of more than 1.4 million residents.    We are currently seeking an Assistant Director of Pharmacy Operational Services for an immediate full-time career opportunity.

Working directly with the Associate and  Director of Pharmacy, the selected candidate will plan, organize, manage, and evaluate all Operational Pharmacy Programs and Services provided by the Pharmacy Department and the Institution.  The individual will develop and maintain programs and services including, but not limited to, Unit-Dose Drug Distribution, IV Admixture Services and Sterile Compounding, Automated Dispensing, Controlled Drug Distribution, Purchasing and Inventory Control, Adverse Drug Reaction Reporting, and Clinical Research and Investigational Drug studies.  

DUTIES

  • Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates all Distributive Pharmacy Services provided by the Pharmacy Department for the Institution.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains Pharmacy IV Admixture Services and Sterile Compounding
  • Implements educational, training, and competency programs for the Pharmacy Staff.
  • Conducts educational programs for the Medical and Nursing staff.
  • Maintains a liaison relationship with the Pharmacy, Therapeutics, and Nutrition Committee (P, T&N), and participates in those and other Hospital Committees.
  • Responsible for coordinating Departmental Purchasing and Inventory Control, including the Hospital’s 340B Drug Program
  • Coordinates and manages Clinical Research and Investigational Drug studies in cooperation with the Pharmacy Clinical staff and Clinical Research Department.
  • Participates in the preparing of staff performance evaluations and reviews evaluations with staff as needed
  • Strives to maintain good interdepartmental and intradepartmental relationships.
  • Coordinates and participates in the development and maintenance of the Hospital Formulary and publication of the Pharmacy Newsletter
  • Monitors and assures compliance with policies, procedures, and legal regulations pertaining to the dispensing activities of the department.
  • Manages, evaluates, and educates Pharmacy staff in the provision of Pharmacy Services throughout the Institution.
  • Assists in training and orientation of all new employees.
  • Participates in the long-range planning of the department, including the development of new clinical services and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence in the consideration of patient age as a factor in dose variation in the review and evaluation of patient profiles and medication orders dispensed.
  • Requires knowledge in the care and handling of patients in all age groups, ranging from neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric, including, but not limited to consideration of the special needs and behavior of each respective age group.
  • Coordinates the institution's Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting program.  Investigates and analyzes ADR reports
Requirements
  • Must be a graduate of an approved five/six-year college of pharmacy.
  • Must be licensed as a pharmacist in the State of New York and maintain current registration.
  • An advanced degree in pharmacy is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
  • In addition, 3-5 years of experience in a hospital pharmacy in an administrative managerial and/or supervisory capacity.
