OUTPATIENT BARIATRIC SURGERY REGISTERED DIETITIAN

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a 404-bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and level I Trauma and Stroke Center.  We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Dietitian for an immediate full-time opportunity.  The selected candidate will provide nutritional guidance and counseling to pre and postoperative bariatric patients through the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized dietary recommendations pertaining to weight loss surgery, in accordance with nutrition standards of care.

Job Functions:

  • Executes and directs the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation) for specialized bariatric surgery ambulatory care setting; is accountable for the provision of safe and reliable care and services and completion of the documentation in accordance with the individual and statutory scope, regulatory standards and facility policies, protocols and practice guidelines, including clinical privileges.
  • Keeps informed of current Bariatric research, including but not limited to the ASMBS Position Statement on Preoperative Patient Optimization before Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and ASMBS Integrated Health Nutritional Guidelines for the Surgical Weight Loss Patient
  • Participates in continuing education and/or other appropriate activities to maintain current certification

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • NYS Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist 
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Specialized knowledge, experience, and training relevant to obesity and weight loss surgery are highly preferred.
