Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our comprehensive mental health service line, serving one of the most diverse communities in New York City.

This is a 1199SEIU union position, offering competitive salary, premium differentials, and strong benefits in a mission-driven, teaching hospital environment.

Position Overview

The Psychiatric NP will provide direct patient care across inpatient, outpatient, and/or emergency psychiatry settings, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic mental health conditions
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and nursing staff
  • Participate in treatment planning and discharge coordination
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Provide patient and family education and support

Compensation & Union Benefits

  • Base Salary: $159,462.85

Additional Compensation:

  • Shift differentials (evenings, nights, weekends)
  • Holiday pay
  • Certification Pay: $2,000 annually
  • Education Pay (Doctor of Nursing Practice): $2,000 annually

Requirements

Active New York State Nurse Practitioner license

  • Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • DEA registration (or eligibility)
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills

 Preferred:

  • Experience in inpatient psychiatry, CPEP, or outpatient mental health
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish, Bengali, or other languages common in Queens)
  • Experience working with urban or underserved populations
