Patient Care Associate – Hospice Unit

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center – Queens, NY

Join a compassionate and dedicated team that delivers high-quality, patient-centered end-of-life care. Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a caring and attentive Patient Care Associate (PCA) to support the Hospice Unit in providing comfort, dignity, and respectful care to patients and their families.

Position Overview:

As a Hospice Patient Care Associate, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients experience comfort and compassion during their final stages of life. You will assist with personal care, monitor patient well-being, and offer meaningful support to patients and their loved ones, working closely with nurses and the hospice care team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and report any changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  • Provide a calm, compassionate presence for patients and families, offering emotional support as needed.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable patient environment.
  • Assist with patient positioning, turning, and transportation within the unit.
  • Support nursing staff in preparing patients for care procedures and ensuring patient dignity at all times.
  • Accurately document care activities in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Respect and honor the individual preferences and cultural needs of each patient.

Requirements
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Prior experience in hospice, palliative care, or long-term care preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate, patient-first approach.
  • Ability to work in a sensitive, emotionally supportive environment.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and commitment to excellence in patient care.
