Join Our Team as an ASL Interpreter – Jamaica Hospital Medical Center
Salary: $75,000 – $80,000 + PTO & Full Benefits

Are you a skilled ASL interpreter passionate about making healthcare accessible for all? Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a full-time, Person-Centered Service ASL Interpreter to provide clear communication and exceptional care for Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients. This role is your chance to make a meaningful impact while working with a collaborative, supportive team.

What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate accurate, professional communication between patients and healthcare providers in ASL and spoken English.
  • Serve as a cultural mediator, promoting inclusive, accessible care across all hospital departments.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, training programs, and resources to improve accessibility for patients who use sign language.
  • Uphold the RID Code of Professional Conduct, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Support high-acuity and specialized medical encounters with precision and confidence.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in ASL/English Interpreting.
  • 2–3 years of experience as a medical interpreter (preferred).
  • RID Certification (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology in English and ASL.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Windows).
  • Ability to interpret confidently in all clinical settings.
