About the Role

As an ASL Interpreter at Jamaica Hospital, you will:

  • Facilitate clear, accurate communication between patients and healthcare providers using ASL and spoken English.
  • Provide cultural mediation to promote inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Support the development of training programs, policies, and resources to improve accommodation for patients who use sign language.
  • Work across multiple departments to ensure patients receive the best care experience possible.
  • Uphold the RID Code of Professional Conduct while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in ASL/English Interpreting.
  • 2–3 years of experience as a medical interpreter (preferred).
  • RID Certification (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology in English and ASL.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Windows).
  • Ability to interpret confidently in all clinical settings.

  • Job Type: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Department: Person-Centered Services / Quality Department
  • Salary Range: $75,000 – $80,000 annually
  • Location: Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Queens, NY
