The WIC Department at Jamaica Hospital seeks full-time Health Associate. Selected candidate will perform overview of prospective and current WIC applicants on WICSIS.
- Prescreen applicants to schedule certification appointments initial and subsequent certification appointments according to NYSDOH mandatory time frames.
- Certify and recertify WIC participants, according to Local Agency and NYSDOH policies and procedures; verify category, income and residency information.
- Generate participant charts to include: WIC Medical Referral Form, Proxy Form, Self-declaration Statements, and any other notes/documents as applicable.
- Roster participants on WICSIS, according to Local Agency Policy.
- Assist Nutritionist by printing and distributing food vouchers
- Provide Rights and Responsibilities statement in appropriate language prior to initiating certification
- Document referrals on WICSIS, familiar with referral agencies and social service programs.
- Maintain Local Agency (LA) logs: check stock paper, help desk, transfer in/out binders, & toner logs.
- Reads WICSIS Communiqués and NYSDOH Memos in a timely manner.
- Perform outreach activities pertaining to participant retention, including, but not limited to: placing reminder calls, rescheduling participants as needed, attending health fairs, and screening for program eligibility.
- Ensure efficient flow of the sign-in process to prevent bottlenecking, especially around break time and end of shift.
- Promote and participate in Healthy Lifestyles projects/initiatives.
- Handle VOC process for inbound and outbound transfers as per NYSDOH and Local Agency Policies and Procedures.
- Assist in conducting participant surveys; compile data to be used in generating State and Local Agency reports.
- Follow State and Local Agency contingency plan plans WICSIS is nonoperational or when technical problems prevent issuing checks on the system.
- Familiar with the procedure for sending, receiving, and setting up equipment for the satellite clinic.
- Work at all Local Agency satellite clinics, as needed.
- Conduct orientation classes for all WIC participants.
Requirements
- H.S./ GED required;
- 1+ year customer service experience, preferably in health care or the WIC Program.
- Critical thinking/problem-solving skills;
- Ability/willingness to embrace a growth mindset in a rapidly changing environment;
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Proficient with computers. Good writing, reading, and communication skills.
- As per NYS requirement, must be able to work on Saturdays and one late shift per week (10 am to 6:30pm).
- MUST BE BILINGUAL (Spanish, Bengali, Hindi, or Haitian Creole). Salary: $22.44
