Registered Nurse – Labor Evaluation Center (OB Triage / L&D)

Full-Time | Day Shift

Join a high-acuity Obstetric Triage (Labor Evaluation Center) where rapid clinical judgment and expert maternal-fetal assessment directly impact the safety of both mother and baby.

At Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, we are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (OB/L&D Triage RN) to provide advanced assessment and emergency-level obstetric care in a fast-paced labor evaluation setting.

Role Overview

The Labor Evaluation Center functions as the first point of clinical assessment for pregnant patients, determining labor status, identifying obstetric complications, and ensuring appropriate disposition to Labor & Delivery or higher-level care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform rapid obstetric triage and maternal-fetal assessments
  • Evaluate patients presenting with labor symptoms or obstetric concerns
  • Initiate and interpret fetal monitoring (EFM/NST)
  • Identify high-risk conditions (preterm labor, bleeding, hypertension, rupture of membranes)
  • Start IVs, obtain labs, and administer OB-related medications per protocol
  • Communicate findings to OB providers and coordinate patient disposition
  • Provide patient education and emotional support during high-stress evaluations
  • Maintain accurate, real-time clinical documentation

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Specialized Role – Required Experience):

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required)
  • Minimum 2–3 years of recent Labor & Delivery and/or OB Triage experience (Required)
  • Prior experience in high-acuity obstetric or perinatal settings strongly required
  • Current BLS certification (Required)
  • ACLS preferred
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (Required or must obtain within timeframe)
  • Strong competency in fetal monitoring interpretation (Required)
  • Proven ability to function in a fast-paced, high-risk clinical environment
  • Excellent critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills

Schedule & Compensation:

  • Full-Time | Day Shift
  • $55.92/hr.
  • Plus applicable shift differentials
