QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM MANAGER – SURGERY
The Quality Improvement (QI) Program Manager fulfills an essential function and is dedicated to the implementation of Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s General Surgery quality improvement programs. These programs are framed according to the standards of American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) and other ACS quality standards. This individual works in close collaboration with the General Surgery leadership team, and under the direction of the PI Physician Champion.
The key components/processes of the programs to be managed by the QI Program Manager are:
- A clinical database of surgical patients that adheres to NSQIP data standards, continually updated by one or more clinical data entry specialists
- Identification of patients who meet pre-defined criteria for further review by the PI physician champion
- Organization of meetings where negative outcomes are discussed, and corrective interventions are developed
- Implementation and documentation of corrective interventions, such as educational programs or clinical and logistical protocols
- Cultivation of lines of communication with critical stakeholders in all of the above quality improvement processes
- Additional responsibilities of the PI program manager include general administrative and logistical support required for implementation of the performance/quality improvement programs. A more granular view of the nature of these responsibilities is given below.
- Essential Functions of the Position/Responsibilities:
- Under the direction and supervision of the PI Physician Champion, the General Surgery Quality Improvement Program Manager:
- Creates and maintains project management tools to ensure timeliness and maintains database.
- Assists in the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of educational programs for the NSQIP program and meetings.
- Coordinates program activities to ensure smooth operations of the NSQIP program, including maintaining NSQIP data portal. W
- Works closely with team members and Surgery subspecialties to keep NSQIP projects on schedule.
- Maintains a library of clinical guidelines/protocols, as well as records of quality improvement activities
- Follows the direction of the Physician Champion, and the department leadership.
- Schedules appointments, meetings, sets up conference calls, webinars, and online surveys, screens telephone calls; sends and type correspondence.
- Participates in strategic planning to support overall goals.
- Assists with the preparation of reports and data for surgery -related meetings, research, and reporting as directed by the Physician Champion and/or department leadership.
- Submits data to the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program.
- Attends and participates in organizational, local, regional, state, and national meetings, and conferences
- Other and additional tasks and duties as assigned.
