FLEET MANAGER

Department: Motor Transportation                    Days Monday – Friday

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center a member of the Medisys Health Network is a 424 bed fully accredited community-based teaching hospital and level I Trauma and Stroke Center.  We provide general medical, pediatric, and psychiatric emergency services, ambulatory care on and off campus, ambulatory surgery and a broad spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services. We are currently seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to administer and oversee the daily operations of our fleet of 70 hospital vehicles consisting of ambulances, diesel trucks, vans and cars.    

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Fleet Manager will manage all functions related to fleet maintenance to include operational performance, costs of operation and maintenance, operational safety, and compliance.

  • Coordinating inspection, repair, and maintenance services to obtain maximum utilization of equipment and prevent operational delays.
  • Working closely with maintenance mechanics and staff to develop a routine schedule for repairs of hospital vehicles to reduce downtime.
  • Maintaining all vehicles, License, registration, and insurance.
  • Supervising. ordering and maintaining parts inventory. 
  • Responsible for purchasing new vehicles.
  • Maintain departmentally compliance with company policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure departmentally adherence to applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Recordkeeping. 
  • Manage other employees.
  • Scheduling, routing, maintaining and tracking transport vehicles. 
  • Negotiating with suppliers. 
  • Resolve disputes. 
  • Analyzing the effectiveness of operations.
  • Implementing and enforcing transportation scheduling and policy changes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Must have an automotive background and strong mechanical knowledge of diesel vehicles.
  • Minimum of 2 years Fleet management supervisory experience preferably in a health care environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in general transportation,
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Excellent Presentation and Communications Skills.
