Carpenter B – Plant Operations
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center
Location: Queens, NY | Shift: Full-Time, Day Shift

Salary: $33.11/hr. Plus Full 1199 Union Benefits

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a proud member of the MediSys Health Network, is a 384-bed, fully accredited, community-based teaching hospital and a designated Level I Trauma and Stroke Center. Our Plant Operations Department provides comprehensive facility support, including maintenance, renovations, and infrastructure services across the hospital campus.

We are currently seeking  experienced Carpenter B candidates to join our team on a full-time, day-shift schedule. The successful candidate will support the maintenance and enhancement of the hospital’s physical environment through skilled carpentry work. This is a hands-on role that requires versatility, craftsmanship, and an understanding of healthcare facility standards.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Lead Carpenter, the selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, and building plans to execute carpentry projects.
  • Installing and repairing structural frameworks such as walls, floors, ceilings, doors, and partitions.
  • Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, and other building materials.
  • Constructing, maintaining, and repairing doors, window frames, sashes, and wood furnishings.
  • Performing demolition of sheetrock walls and ceiling systems.
  • Repairing and replacing suspended ceiling systems and various types of tile (horizontal and vertical surfaces).
  • Conducting preventative maintenance and minor renovations within the facility.
  • Safely operating hand and power tools and maintaining clean, organized work areas.
  • Performing other carpentry-related duties as assigned, with attention to hospital-specific safety and compliance standards.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in carpentry, woodworking, construction, or cabinetry as a Carpenter’s Helper or Apprentice.
  • Must have valid New York State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays, when required.
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices and safety procedures.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to follow directions in a healthcare environment.
  • Driving a company vehicle is required.
