HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

 

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center located in Queens, New York has an employment opportunity for a Human Resources Generalist to provide support and assistance, under the direction of the Human Resources Leadership Team, regarding employment and labor relations matters.   Our ideal candidate will have 1-2 years HR Generalist experience.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:   

  • Handles routine labor relations and human resources inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements, and refers complex matters to appropriate management staff.
  • Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
  • Conducts initial interviews and gathers information in response to employee complaints regarding issues such as compensation, workplace safety, allegations of harassment or discrimination, and other concerns raised; informs appropriate HR staff when additional investigation is required.
  • Assists with recordkeeping related to alleged violations of collective bargaining agreements, disciplinary actions, employment terminations and leaves of absence, particularly as related to employee complaints and grievances.
  • Collects information and data to assess cost and policy implications of negotiations and disputes. This may include management and union proposals, pay scales and wages, benefits, working conditions, and other mitigating circumstances.
  • Provides support and assistance with preparation of documents and records required for contract negotiations, meetings, and negotiations with employee and labor organizations.
  • Conducts surveys, interviews, and other research related to human resource policy review and development, compensation issues, and reports findings as directed and determined necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to employment and labor
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor Relations, business administration or related field.

1-2 years HR Generalist experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
