  The TJH Division of Ophthalmology at Jamaica Hospital is a private group practice that offers a full range of medical, diagnostic, and surgical services. From annual eye examinations to surgical procedures, our Board Certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologists, and support staff are dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye disorders and ophthalmic conditions. We utilize the latest diagnostic equipment and a full range of lasers to treat a broad range of conditions:  In addition, our Operating Room is equipped to perform modern cataract extractions, glaucoma surgery, oculoplastic procedures, and pediatric ophthalmology procedures.  We are currently seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician for immediate full time career opportunity. 

DUTIES:  As an Ophthalmic Technician you will:

  • Perform complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, lensometer, intra-ocular pressure with (iCARE), VF test, A-Scan Biometry (IOL master)/B-scan, Pachymetry, OCT imaging, Fundus imaging, color testing, stereo fly test, and contact lens evaluation/teaching).
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit. Accurately records all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
  • Check the condition of patients' eyes by observing pupils, muscle, visual acuity, extraocular movements, and blood pressure (if requested by Physician).
  • Prepare patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, changes in visual acuity, elevated extraocular pressure, or blood pressure and communicating results to Attending Physician.
  • Secure patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records.
  • Counsel patients by transmitting physician's orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and answer questions about surgery and specialty imagining required/ordered.
  • Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and promptly reporting equipment issues with (Zeiss/Heidelberg/Lombard/TOPCON)
  • Process prescription refill requests.
  •  Perform set standard number of patient work-ups based on established times while maintaining quality of customer service.
  • Maintain stock in exam room in accordance to standard inventory and Physician preferences.
  • Maintain minor procedure stock and all sterilization of instruments. Sets up and prep for minor procedures to include setting sterile tray and maintaining sterile field.
Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:       

  • MUST Have a Minimum 2 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience
  • Knowledge of Fluorescein angiograms is a plus.
  • Must be flexible and able to work 1 -2 Saturdays per month
  • Knowledge with prior authorizations with ophthalmic drops/intravitreal injections a plus

Salary: $25/hr. - $27/hr.  DOEF
