The Department of Surgery at Jamaica Hospital currently seeks Trauma Research Assistant for immediate full-time opportunity.  The selected candidate will supportR the Director of Research in the Department of Surgery with the planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of research pertaining to traumatic injuries and critical care surgery. Duties may include, but are not limited to literature review, contributing to research protocol development, IRB communication and protocol maintenance. Data extraction from the EMR using electronic data capture systems, maintaining project databases, and ensuring data integrity; analyzing and summarizing data; contributing to dissemination of study results. In addition, the applicant will collaborate with members of the trauma program and other departments to coordinate study-related activities as necessary. The applicant must possess superior analytical and creative thinking skills, attention to detail, and be capable of keeping accurate and detailed records. Flexibility and the ability to learn and apply new methods as needed is essential. Applicant must be fluent in English and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:  BA/BS in STEM, psychology, or related field plus four or more years of relevant experience. Experience with descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression techniques, and scientific writing. Proficient with full MS Office suite, and experience with scientific writing. Practical, hands-on experience with either R, Python, or another statistical package. Knowledge/familiarity with SQL, REDCap, and EMR a plus.

Preferred Qualifications: MA/MS/MPH in STEM, psychology, or related field plus two or more years of relevant experience. Advanced knowledge of descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and regression techniques. Knowledge of why/which/when certain statistical methods should be applied. Experience with machine learning. Advanced ability with full MS Office suite and extensive experience/fluency with R, Python, or another statistical package and able to independently analyze complex datasets. Previous contribution to or authorship of published scientific articles. Practical experience writing SQL queries and using REDCap. Experience extracting data from the EMR using code to create research databases or ad-hoc reports.
