The Respiratory Care Department at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is a 24-hour a day division of the hospital comprised of NYS licensed respiratory therapists.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Respiratory Care Department as a Supervisor. The Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the work of the Respiratory Therapists for both the hospital and Pulmonary Function lab/Bronchoscopy Suite.  Additionally, he/she will participate in the orientation, in-service and performance improvement programs, and is a resource person for the staff in the management of difficult patients, and handling of equipment problems. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain personnel coverage on all tours and design shift assignment work schedules for all personnel and students.
  • Act as a preceptor for new employees during their orientation.                      
  • Handle disciplinary matters, counseling notices and warnings as necessary.
  • Assist with teaching and orienting the respiratory staff, nurses, physicians and students including conduct annual in-services and certify/recertify competency on procedures and equipment.
  • Assist with the Performance Improvement Program – Obtain, Analyze, and report PI data at Departmental and Hospital PI meetings.
  • Assist in writing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assume the responsibilities of a therapist in an emergency when necessary.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director.
Requirements
  • Knowledge in the care and handling of patients in all age groups ranging from neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric, including but not limited to consideration of the special need and behavior of each respective age group.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or Associate’s degree with more than 5 years of supervisory/managerial experience)
  • Minimum of five years of experience in respiratory therapy under medical supervision.
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist (NYS)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC)
  • BLS (Basice Life Support) certification 
  • N.Y.C. Fire Department permit for Care and Supervision of Central Oxygen and Nitrous Oxide System in Hospital.
  • Membership in AARC
