Student Nurse Extern

Join us during your summer off for our annual “Student Nurse Externship Program”. This paid program is designed to give RN nursing student’s valuable knowledge of professionalism in nursing practice, the experience of hands-on “nursing excellence” in our professional environment, and best practice in patient care, full-time Flex schedule hours, not to mention the highest-quality training in a nurturing and educational setting.

The student nurse extern is a member of the nursing staff who is trained to perform specific tasks under the direction of a registered nurse. This unique 8-week externship gives student nurses the opportunity to practice hands-on patient care in an atmosphere that is defined by intense caring and compassion. The experience begins with assignment to a unit and a preceptor RN who will provide the student nurse extern with the support and guidance needed to grow professionally.
Jamaica Hospital Medical Nurse Externship Program offers a broad scope of hands-on experiences. Modern patient care units present student nurse externs with a range of learning experiences. Student Nurse Externs will also have the opportunity to collaborate on a nursing research-related project. In addition to direct patient care, additional experiences are arranged for student nurse Externs to observe in one or two areas of interest.
