DEPARTMENT: PLANT OPERATIONS

The Plant Operations department at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center currently seeks experienced Stationary Engineer for immediate full-time and part-time opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for the daily operation of the Boiler and HVAC Plant, steam and chilled water distribution system and all associated equipment. Coordinated on-going preventive maintenance and repairs or upgrades to systems located in the power plants areas of the facility.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Operates, maintains, and adjusts boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, lighting and associated equipment in public buildings, municipal pumping stations and incinerators.
  • Makes periodic inspections of equipment and minor repairs to such equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Takes responsible charge of a watch, and while so engaged is responsible for and directs subordinate personnel.
  • May operate control consoles in control rooms.
  • Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts.
  • Instructs and trains subordinates and other personnel.
  • Reads and logs meters, gauges and other recording devices.
  • Keep records and makes reports.
  • As directed, inspects low pressure boilers in accordance with a unified inspection procedure instituted by the New York City Department of Buildings.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a hospital engineering/power plant operations environment
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Current knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional standards of care which includes ASHRAE, ASHE.
  • PC Proficiency in Excel, Word, and working knowledge of engineering apps required.

Licenses, Certifications:

  • Must hold and maintain active without lapse the following:
    • High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License issued by NYC and Certificate of Qualification for Refrigeration Operator (Q01/Q99) issued by NYC DOB
    • DOB.Universal Technician Certification issued by the USA EPA,
  • Documentation of the certification and qualification listing in section 1 must be presented before starting work in the position of a Stationary Engineer.
  • Must hold and maintain active without lapse the following Certificate of Fitness (COF) issued by the FDNY:
    • S12 – Citywide Sprinkler Systems,
    • S13 – City wide Standpipe Systems,
    • A35 – To Operate and Maintain Air Compressors,
  • The COF listing in section 3, above must be obtained with six months of starting work in the position of a Stationary Engineer.
  • The following COF are not mandatory for the Stationary Engineer position, but are highly desirable, including:
    • F60 – Fire Guard for Torch Operations,
    • G46 – Storage, Handling, Use and Refilling of Non-Flammable Gas Cylinders, and
    • P13 – Supervision of a Bulk Oil Storage Facility.
    • G60 – Torch Use of Flammable Gas, Certificate of Fitness
