Flushing Hospital Medical Center is a 293-bed, not-for-profit teaching hospital. The hospital offers a variety of services for a culturally diverse community, including Bariatric Surgical Service, Ambulatory Care Center, Women’s Health Center, Wound Care Center, and Chemical Dependence Unit. Our busy on-site full-service pharmacy provides prescription services to discharged, emergency department, and clinic patients as well as employees. We are currently seeking an experienced Pharmicist.

The following are general job requirements; however, the practice generally encompasses additional details or requirements:

  • Interprets and evaluates physician orders in order to prepare, calculate and dispense appropriate medication dosage forms.
  • Communicates with prescribers and nursing personnel according to pharmacist intervention procedures to clarify or change orders that are unclear, illegible, incomplete or questionable.
  • Recommends changes in drug therapy and/or therapeutic alternatives to non-formulary agents.
  • Properly documents intervention activities.
  • Takes personal responsibility to insure rapid resolution of problem orders.
  • Assumes responsibility for accurately preparing, labeling and dispensing of medication for all areas of the hospital in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Accurately enters and processes medication orders in the computer system to ensure appropriate drug distribution.
  • Reviews, maintains and screens medication profiles for allergies, interactions, therapeutic duplication, while entering orders or checking medication cassettes using medication fill list.
  • Serves as a drug information resource and advises the prescriber, nurse, and patient as required regarding the contents, therapeutic actions, utilization and possible adverse reactions and interactions of drugs.
  • Accurately compounds and labels I.V. admixtures, chemotherapy injections, parental nutrition, etc. adhering to proper technique; knowledge and application of hoods.
  • Directly supervises and checks the work of pharmacy technicians, and interns engaged in the packaging, labeling and distribution of both sterile and non-sterile medication.
  • Controls the distribution of controlled, non-controlled drugs and investigational drugs as required by all applicable regulations.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of all new employees.
  • Assists with inventory, check in and proper storage of all drug supplies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence in the consideration of age specific dose variations in reviewing and evaluating patient medication therapy.
  • Performs all assigned duties by supervising personnel, including professional, technical and clerical functions.

 

Requirements
  • Doctor of Pharmacy required.
  • NY State Pharmacist Licensure required.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, interpersonal and organizational skills required.
