The Department of Ambulatory Care at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is searching for Patient Care Associates (medical assistant) for the opening of our new clinic. Our goal is to cultivate a strong relationship between the patient and their PCP to ensure continuity of care, collaboration, and best outcomes. We see patients of all ages from newborn to geriatrics.
Our Patient Care Associates should be able to obtain pertinent vital signs, Assists providers and patients with exams/procedures, prepares and maintains equipment used for procedures, maintains records and performs clerical tasks.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepares examination rooms, restocks examination rooms with appropriate instruments and supplies. Maintains cleanliness and order of rooms.
• Takes and charts vital signs and patient histories, secures consent form signatures, reviews patient’s chart for up-to-date immunizations, completeness and accuracy.
• Reviews charts of patients to be seen to assure that all progress notes, lab tests and other test results are accurate and complete.
• Performs EKG’s, glucose testing, pregnancy testing as per Physician instructions.
• Review MD’s discharge instructions. Patient discharge includes, but not limited to: Return appointments; referrals to Specialty Clinics; Complete labs ordered by the MD.; Prescriptions; Scheduling Appointments; Answers phones; Takes messages.
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned or when necessary.

Requirements
EDUCATION: • Graduate from an Accredited Medical Assistant school • HS Diploma required.. • Current BLS certificate from American Heart Association. EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS: • One year experience required • Ability to handle high volume • Phlebotomy experience desired • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
