TRAUMA REGISTRAR – TRAUMA DEPARTMENT 

Salary: $65K – $75K + Full Benefits & PTO

Join our dedicated team as a Trauma Registrar, where you’ll play a vital role in ensuring accurate trauma data collection and reporting. This data supports research, performance improvement, and prevention initiatives, contributing to better patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Trauma Program Director (TPD), the Trauma Registrar will:

  • Identify and track trauma patients according to national, state, and organizational guidelines.
  • Accurately abstract, code, and enter trauma data into the registry using ICD-10 and Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS).
  • Maintain 80% concurrent trauma registry completion within 60 days of hospital exit, per ACS standards.
  • Submit data to the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), and New York State Trauma Registry on required schedules.
  • Participate in data validation (Inter-Rater Reliability) and make necessary corrections.
  • Generate reports for the Trauma Medical Director (TMD), TPD, and Performance Improvement (PI) Team as needed.
  • Support preparation of trauma-related reports, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and report patient safety and quality concerns to the PI Team.
  • Attend local, state, and national trauma-related meetings and maintain continuing education (CE) requirements.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related field preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in a healthcare-related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and data entry experience preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Trauma Registrar is a plus.
  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) and Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) preferred.

Professional Development:

The selected candidate must complete the following training (as per ACS requirements):

  • A basic trauma registry course
  • AAAM’s Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course
  • ICD-10 coding course (with refreshers every five years)
  • 24 hours of CME per 3-year verification cycle

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong data entry and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Ability to operate standard office equipment
