The American Heart Association has also recognized stroke care at Jamaica Hospital with the “Gold Plus” award in 2021 and 2022.
It’s an exciting time to come on board at Jamaica Hospital. Our institution consists of a 402-bed hospital, a large culturally diverse network of community-based ambulatory care centers, and a skilled nursing facility in a public urban setting, conveniently located near JFK International Airport and in close proximity to Manhattan. With over 120,000 ER visits, the ER is designated as a Level 1 trauma center. Our Chest Pain Center offers immediate evaluation and the recently expanded Pediatric ED is equipped to handle the most critical cases and is supported by one of the largest voluntary ambulance fleets serving the City 911 system.
Position Overview:
As a Health Psychologist at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between mental and physical health. You will work with a diverse patient population to promote healthy lifestyles, prevent and manage diseases, and provide therapeutic services to those dealing with health-related issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Lifestyle Improvement Programs: Design and implement programs to encourage healthy behaviors, such as smoking cessation, weight management, and exercise routines.
Disease Prevention and Management: Work with individuals to prevent the onset of diseases and help manage chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
Behavioral Medicine: Study the interplay between behavior and physical health, focusing on how behaviors like stress, diet, and sleep affect physical health.
Clinical Health Psychology: Provide therapeutic services to individuals dealing with health-related issues, such as adjusting to a chronic illness, managing pain, or coping with terminal illness.
Health Policy and Research: Conduct research to understand health behaviors and inform public health policies, developing interventions to improve health outcomes.
Patient Education and Advocacy: Educate patients about their conditions and advocate for patient-centered care in healthcare settings.
Collaboration: Work with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and social workers, to provide holistic care.
