DIRECTOR OF RISK MANAGEMENT

The Director of Risk Management, in collaboration with the Chief Quality Officer, is responsible for administering programs to prevent, reduce and control risk to the healthcare organization, its patients, visitors, volunteers, and employees. The Director of Risk Management is responsible for defining, integrating and executing the risk management programs, including proactive assessments of the effectiveness of safety systems, facilitation of incident investigations, root cause analysis, and development, tracking and evaluation of the effectiveness of risk reduction strategies. The Risk Management Director is also responsible for supporting the claims management functions, developing policies, delivering education programs, and reporting to applicable committees. He/she will oversee and manage regulatory reporting of cases as required by legal/regulatory agencies e.g.  NYPORTS, Justice Center, NIMERS, TJC, CMS, and others as needed. The Director of Risk Management develops collaborative relationships with all departments to lead the ongoing development of a just, safe and continuous learning culture throughout the organization.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field, Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of managerial experience working in hospital-based risk management is required.
  • A certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP) preferred.
  • Proficiency in electronic system applications including Microsoft office, Electronic Medical Record and Occurrence Reporting and Management System. 
  • Ability to provide education and consultation on risk mitigation strategies
  • Ability to interpret regulations and laws and disseminate information.
  •  Ability to utilize hospital EMR to capture, analyze, archive, and report risk events.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal, written, and public speaking skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Clinical acumen, knowledge of medical terminology and regulations (within the healthcare industry), malpractice and insurance and medical litigation
