Social Worker – Violence Prevention

Department: Surgery / Trauma Division
Location: Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, Queens, NY
Salary: $75K – $85K DOE + Full Benefits & Generous PTO

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center, is committed to addressing the root causes of trauma recidivism in our community. Our Violence Elimination and Trauma Outreach (VETO) Program is a Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP) serving survivors of interpersonal violence aged 13 to 44.

We are seeking a full-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) to join our team. This role provides trauma-informed counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and personalized support to victims and their families. The Social Worker will collaborate with the Trauma Division under the supervision of the VETO Program Manager and Trauma Leadership. LCSW supervision is available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient eligibility, psychosocial needs, and risks using medical records and screening tools.
  • Provide trauma-informed counseling, crisis intervention, and case management to patients and families.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, hospital staff, and community-based services.
  • Maintain accurate, professional documentation in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Attend project meetings, community events, and training sessions.
  • Supervise peer counselors and social work interns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by program leadership.

Requirements
  • Must have  LCSW (New York State) with a Master’s in Social Work.
  • Strong crisis intervention and counseling skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and urban youth issues, especially youth violence.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and web applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a hospital or medical setting.
    Knowledge of medical terminology.
    Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole.
