Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department Residency Program

Location: Jamaica Hospital Medical Center

Program Overview:
The Jamaica Hospital Emergency Department RN Residency Program is a structured, full-time training opportunity designed to transition new graduate nurses and nurses with limited ED experience into confident, competent professionals within a Level 1 Trauma Center.

You will gain hands-on training in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency setting through a blend of didactic instruction, simulation labs, preceptorship, and clinical immersion. Our program emphasizes trauma care, rapid assessment, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Program Highlights:

  • 12–16 week comprehensive residency curriculum
  • One-on-one mentorship with experienced ED preceptors
  • Simulation-based training (e.g., Code Blue, rapid sequence intubation, polytrauma)
  • Progressive autonomy and skill development
  • Rotations across ED zones: triage, trauma bay, fast track, resuscitation
  • Dedicated support from Nurse Educators and ED Leadership
  • Weekly debriefs and professional development sessions

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN required; BSN preferred)
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain prior to start date
  • BLS certification (AHA required)
  • ACLS certification (preferred at hire; required within 3 months)
  • Passion for emergency nursing, trauma care, and patient advocacy
  • Strong communication, clinical reasoning, and adaptability skills
  • Commitment to completing the full residency program

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PALS, TNCC, or ENPC (preferred, not required)
  • Clinical rotations or externship in emergency/critical care setting
  • Multilingual abilities (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Bengali, etc.)
