Registered Nurse (RN) – Hospice

Join a compassionate team committed to providing dignified, patient-centered end-of-life care. Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Hospice RN to deliver comfort, support, and expert care to patients with terminal illnesses and their families.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a Hospice RN, you will play a critical role in supporting patients during their final journey, focusing on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. You will assess patient needs, manage symptoms, and provide emotional support while collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary care team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct regular patient assessments, monitoring physical and emotional well-being.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and provide effective pain and symptom management.
  • Deliver emotional and psychosocial support to patients and their loved ones.
  • Educate families about the hospice philosophy, care expectations, and end-of-life processes.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, social workers, chaplains, and home health aides.
  • Manage medical equipment and supplies, ensuring patient comfort at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care plans and patient progress.
  • Provide crisis intervention and bereavement support as needed.

Requirements
  • Current NY State RN License in good standing
  • BLS Certification required; Hospice or Palliative Care Certification preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience; backgrounds in medical-surgical, oncology, geriatrics, or critical care are highly applicable
  • Hospice or palliative care experience is strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis management skills
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team
  • Deep commitment to delivering compassionate, dignified end-of-life care

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Hourly Rate: $53.18/hour
  • Benefits: Full 1199 SEIU union benefits including medical, dental, vision, pension, and prescription coverage
