POLYSOMNOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGIST – SLEEP LAB

(12-Hour Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 8:15 AM)

💰 Salary: $85,000/year

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s Department of Respiratory Medicine is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing comprehensive respiratory care. We are currently seeking an experienced Polysomnographic Technologist (Sleep Technologist) to join our Sleep Laboratory in a full-time role.

Position Overview:

As a Polysomnographic Technologist, you will be responsible for conducting and analyzing sleep studies to diagnose and treat sleep disorders in infants, children, adolescents, and adults. Your expertise will help improve patient outcomes through precise monitoring, accurate data collection, and patient education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sleep studies using polysomnographic equipment to monitor brain activity, breathing patterns, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels.
  • Analyze sleep study data, document findings, and generate reports for physician interpretation.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout sleep studies and therapy sessions.
  • Educate patients on sleep hygiene, sleep disorders, and treatment options.
  • Maintain and calibrate sleep-monitoring equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Apply and remove electrodes and sensors in compliance with AASM standards.
  • Observe and document patient behaviors, sleep patterns, and significant events during studies.
  • Assist patients with CPAP/BiPAP titration and educate them on proper usage.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals to develop personalized treatment plans.
  • Supervise trainees and technicians assisting with sleep studies.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience requirements:
✅ High school diploma or GED + 6 months of supervised direct polysomnographic patient care experience
✅ Currently enrolled in an approved polysomnographic education program

Preferred Certifications:

Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
Registered Sleep Technologist (RST)
Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT)
