Pharmacist -Full-Time (Temporary, 6-Month Assignment)

Salary: $71.53/hr.  – $80.68/hr., DOE

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a 384-bed Level I Trauma Center ranked in the top 5% nationwide for clinical excellence, is seeking experienced Staff Pharmacists for an immediate full-time, day shift temporary assignment (6 months). Position Overview

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based medication therapy management in an acute care setting. This role includes both operational and clinical responsibilities such as order verification, pharmacotherapy monitoring, sterile compounding, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The pharmacist will actively contribute to patient care decisions and support the education of pharmacy trainees and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, verify, and process medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, dosing, and drug interactions
  • Prepare and dispense medications, including sterile products and hazardous agents (e.g., chemotherapy)
  • Monitor patient medication therapy and provide clinical recommendations to prescribers
  • Deliver drug information and education to physicians, nurses, and patients
  • Supervise and support pharmacy technicians and interns
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and hospital policies
  • Participate in training and precepting pharmacy students and new staff

Requirements

Qualifications (Strict Requirements)

  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy program (PharmD or equivalent)
  • Active New York State Pharmacist license and registration (required)

Required Experience (Must Meet One of the Following):

  • Recent hospital pharmacy experience in an acute care setting, OR
  • Demonstrated clinical pharmacy experience involving direct patient care, pharmacotherapy monitoring, and collaboration with healthcare teams

Important:

  • Retail/community dispensing-only experience does NOT meet this requirement
  • Candidates must have hands-on clinical decision-making experience beyond standard retail dispensing functions

Preferred:

  • Experience with sterile compounding and/or IV admixture
  • Familiarity with hospital EMR systems and clinical workflows
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and professionalism
